Updated on: October 17, 2025

For normal people like us, a missed turn would simply mean backtracking or taking a detour. However, for drivers operating Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV), a missed turn would mean delayed delivery, more fuel consumption, unreliable service, and unhappy customers.

Fleet managers looking after HGV operations understand that poor route planning can hurt their profit margins, efficiency, and customer trust.

This makes the role of HGV route planning crucial for fleet success. HGV route planners leverage advanced route optimization algorithms and other features that make route planning seamless and effective

An HGV route planner is software built to guide heavy goods vehicles on the safest and most efficient routes. Unlike standard navigation apps, it accounts for truck-specific restrictions such as weight limits, bridge heights, and vehicle capacities.

With multiple options available in the market, choosing the right HGV route planner becomes an important task to ensure success. Here’s a list of the top five HGV route planner apps that will help you take your route planning and delivery operations a notch higher.
