Managing addresses is one of the most hectic jobs in the last mile delivery process. About a decade ago, delivering packages to customers across the city took much pain for the drivers. But now Zeo Route Planner has advanced the last mile delivery management, easing handling the customers’ addresses.

Zeo Route Planner has always tried to provide features to their customers that can help them to carry out the last-mile delivery process easily. We have provided various methods to manage our app’s address, including importing addresses using a spreadsheet, importing addresses using image capture, and manual typing. We have recently added a new feature, which is importing addresses using QR/Bar code.

This new feature will help the drivers to import the address directly from the package. Since every package contains either a Bar code or a QR code, the drivers can easily scan those codes, and the app will automatically load the addresses and help them get delivery ready. This functionality is particularly beneficial for service professionals like exterminators, electricians, and pool service technicians who need to manage multiple client locations efficiently.

Why QR/Bar Code Scanning Matters for Route Planning

In today’s fast-paced delivery environment, accuracy and speed are paramount. Traditional methods of address input are prone to human error, which can lead to delayed deliveries, frustrated customers, and increased operational costs. QR and bar code scanning eliminates these issues by providing instant, accurate address capture.

This technology is especially valuable for businesses that handle high volumes of packages or serve multiple clients throughout the day. Whether you’re managing same-day delivery operations or coordinating service appointments, the bar/QR code feature streamlines your workflow significantly.

The scanning feature also reduces the time spent on administrative tasks, allowing drivers and service professionals to focus on what matters most – delivering excellent service to customers. For businesses looking to enhance their fleet vehicle management, this feature represents a significant step forward in operational efficiency.

Best Practices for Bar/QR Code Scanning

To get the most out of this feature, consider these helpful tips:

  • Ensure Good Lighting: Scan codes in well-lit areas for better accuracy. If you’re working in dim conditions, use your phone’s flashlight feature.
  • Hold Steady: Keep your phone stable while scanning to avoid blurry captures that might result in scanning errors.
  • Clean the Code: Make sure the bar or QR code is clean and undamaged. Dirt, scratches, or wrinkles can interfere with scanning.
  • Proper Distance: Position your phone at the right distance – not too close or too far from the code.
  • Check Results: Always verify that the scanned address matches your intended destination before proceeding with route optimization.

Troubleshooting Common Scanning Issues

While the QR/Bar code scanning feature is designed to work seamlessly, you might occasionally encounter issues. Here are solutions to common problems:

Code Won’t Scan: If the app isn’t recognizing the code, try adjusting the angle, improving lighting, or cleaning the code surface. Some older or damaged codes might require manual entry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What types of codes can Zeo Route Planner scan?

Zeo Route Planner can scan both QR codes and various barcode formats commonly used on shipping labels and packages. The app automatically detects the code type and processes the information accordingly.

Can I edit addresses after scanning them from QR/Bar codes?

Yes, you can edit any address after scanning. Simply tap on the address entry and make the necessary modifications before optimizing your route. This is helpful if you need to add specific delivery instructions or correct any scanning errors.

Will the scanning feature work in low light conditions?

The scanning feature works best in good lighting conditions. However, you can use your phone’s flashlight to improve visibility in darker environments. The app will automatically adjust to optimize scanning performance.

How many addresses can I scan and add to a single route?

You can scan and add multiple addresses to create comprehensive routes. The exact number depends on your Zeo Route Planner subscription plan, but the scanning feature itself doesn’t limit how many codes you can process in one session.

What should I do if a QR or bar code is damaged and won’t scan?

If a code is too damaged to scan, you can use Zeo’s other address input methods such as manual typing, importing from spreadsheets, or using the image capture feature. You can also contact the sender to request a new label with a readable code.
